Hi I have a couple of questions about DDR memory.

1: Can someone point me to a site with DDR benchmarks compared to pc100/133 sdram, or give me a rough idea how much faster it is.

2: I'm considering getting a ASUS A7A266 mobo for the 1.33ghz t-bird (considered getting a 1.4 but I will be OC'ing with WC and I heard they both hit 1.6 easy). anyway the mobo supports pc100sdram, If I buy a stick of 256mb ddr pc2100 ram and use it with the pc100 ram will the whole shabang still work, and will it posibly slow down the ddr memory to pc100 speeds?

thank for any info

One thing for sure, you CANNOT run SDRAM and DDR RAM together at the same time. The only reason they made the board with both types is so that until you can buy the DDR RAM, you can still use the old SDRAM from your other computer in it. Just a way to sell the board faster.

If you decide to drop the PC133 and go totally DDR (it is really cheap now) then have a look at the Epox 8K7A board. Its an AMD 761 board. Fast & stable. Faster than the other DDR chipsets so far.

Do not run DDR, and SDR at the same time!!! The motherboard will use 3.3v for the memory (both cases) and kill the DDR. DDR memory only uses 2.5v.

DDR ram isn't much faster in benchmarks, but anyway you can see for yourself! If you have Sisoft Sandra 2001 pro, you can select what you compare your benchmark too.....just select ALI Magik 1 chipset with PC2100 memory, and you can compare.

Now don't forget this is comparing running @ 133mhz.

I have an asus a7a266 mobo w/512 mb of pc2100

some food for thought: it takes my system about 3 sec to do a ram test @ bootup where my old mobo (256 pc100) takes about 5~10 sec

You can't trust those scores. Look at any ddr motherboard and they will be way higher. My 8k7a gets much better scores than what they have for the amd 761 chipset.

I wasn't putting down DDR memory, i was just stating that DDR memory in sisoft sandra, don't look too much better. Don't get me wrong, i love DDR memory, i just ordered 256mb PC2100 3 hours ago, and i got overnight shipping, cuz i couldn't stand to wait!
