i have never used the floppy drive that came w/ my case....until i tried using it just now to update the BIOS.

I am wondering if the thing is dead or what.

the gree read light is always on....from boot on...the light stays on.....it is getting power. i have tired 3 different floppy drive cables....they were plugged in correctly.

windows recognized the drive...but if i try to acces a disk/format one...it says there is no floppy disk in the drive/please insert a disk into drive a:

could it be dead or is it something else?

try to flip the cable around from how u have it now. This is a common problem cable just needs to be fliped over the other way.

r u using a cable with the twist in it?it looks like the cable is twisted around backwards just a ques i had. i really dont know then i always just flip mine around then it works right.

Right, but that end still has to be installed correctly. Almost all the time, that end of the cable is reversed when the floppy light stays on all the time.
