mm hmmm accidently anyways

Dell accidently posted details, on their US website, of a new 27 inch LCD, the soon-to-be W2707C.

Specifications are:

* HD ready
* 1920 x 1200 native resolution
* 1000:1 contrast ratio
* 500 cd/m2 brightness
* 8ms response speed

looks sweet

27" with that resolution will have fairly large pixel pitch no? Although maybe it will merely be comparable to the 19" 1280x1024 screens, or the current 22" ones. Given the price on the 24" and 30" right now though this could well come in at $900ish, still a lot but damn that's a lot of screen :eek:

eh, I can't imagine that it would be an issue, pixel wise I mean.

I think they were probably trying to provide a more manageable resolution (as opposed to the 3007WFP's) but still give a larger display.

I'll bet it looks purty. We'll see I guess. (case looks cool BTW)

i would hope they would include that....most of their other WS LCD's do it.

Does the 2407 do it? I thought they claimed it did but it didn't actually.

Hmmm, I can't comment from experience, I had a 2405, not 2407. I would sure hope it does actually do it if they say it should. There's many 2407 owners around here, surely one of them can chime in

I was under the impression that their LCDs don't do 1:1 pixel mapping...

Under the OSD section 'display settings' there should be an option that says 'wide mode' And it gives you the option of 1:1, 4:3, or Fill (At least according to the manual, haven't seen a 2407 in person)

That sounds like 1:1 aspect ratio... which may be different than 1:1 pixel mapping.

From googling "1:1 pixel mapping" I've read a few different articles on different sites....and I don't see how 1:1 pixel mapping would be an issue with say for instance, a 2407WFP.

I mean if you are setting your video card to output 1920x1200 and the display's native resolution is 1920x1200....wouldn't the pixels be mapped 1:1 ? You are outputting 1920 pixels and there are 1920 pixels on the display...where else would they go but one in each pixel?

But I can say I still don't fully understand the issue of 1:1 pixel mapping....so maybe I just don't fully get it?

1:1 pixel mapping is for other video sources, like something that outputs a 16:9 image (HDTV, blu-ray, etc). If it doesn't do 1:1 it will stretch the image to the 16:10 format of the display so everything appears distorted. A 1:1 pixel mapped display will not stretch the display and will instead put small black bars at the top and bottom, so the image is displayed correctly (16:9 rather than 16:10).

OK, well then yeah, that is what the Dell's do. Set the OSD menu to 1:1 and it'll only display what is output. (Like if you are outputting 1024x768, you just get a tiny box in the center of the screen :))

The specs mostly look good, but 8ms? Come on. I'd actually like to be able to see crisp movement after shelling out that kind of money.
