Desktop notepad?

I'm looking for a notepad program that will dock (or somehow remain visible) on my screen. I use Notepad a lot for random stuff, and it would be handy to have a notepad allways ready for use somewhere on the screen. However, I can't find anything like it that is descent and free, so I'm hoping some of you have suggestions

you could use metapad, which is a Note pad replacement and can be made transparent.

I know you said free but I am thowing this out anyway since it is prety good

and here is a freeware program though I have never used it, having multiple monitors now I just keep Scite open all the time
