Northwoods are the second revision of the P4.

Apart from the Williamette, the first generations of the P4, they have 512K Cache, and they are 0.13 Micron Processors. Their are some Northwood that have the speed of the Williamette, to tell them apart other than the cache or micron processor, is that they usually end in A.

1.6a
1.8a
2.0a

Are the a chips..

Other than that I can't think of anything else.

Northwoods are also ONLY socket 478
were Willys can be both 423 and 478, so if its 423, then its a willy for sure.
other than that i think Yodums got the rest

Unfortunately, where I bought the cpu and mobo from did not give me the box that the cpu came in although, it was a boxed cpu. This prevents me from knowing the details about my cpu. Sandra lists the revision/stepping as 1 / 2. And I do know that it is PGA socket 478 pin P4 1.70 ghz. with 8kb internal unified cache 4 way x 32 byte, 12kb internal trace cache @ 4 way x 32 byte, and the L2 syncronous cache @ 256kb. I would take it that makes it a Northwood processor correct?

Since the L2 Cache is 256 its a Williamette. Also the Northwood doesn't come in flavours of 1.7 either so I guess your stuck with a Williamette :(

I would think that the Northwoods with their larger cache would be have a slight speed advantange over the Williamette cpu's.
Or, are you stating something that I am missing.

What I meant was.

There are like speeds of P4 which are:

1.6
1.8
2.0

Which can either be both Williamettes or P4. The cache helps, but not that much, mainly for more CPU Processing stuff (IE: Seti or Folding perhaps).
