Here's the deal. I plan on piecing together a new system over the next 6 months. It's going to be a mid-level bang for the buck system. My intention is to center it around a DFI NF4 Ultra modded to a SLI. Now, most of the stuff I'm probably going to buy as late in the game as possible for obvious reasons, but I want to get the motherboard before nvidia starts locking them as ultras. Is this a smart idea, or will the SLI boards more than likely be in the $150 range in 6 months, or will there possibly be a better board in that range? Any opinions would be appreciated, it's getting harder and harder to keep myself from clicking the "Add to cart" button.

PS - I've been away from the boards for a little while, how is everyone?

Well if it makes you feel any better.. The actual Sli boards should settle in at about 170$ and less (very shortly). Asus is already offering their SLI board cheaper (down 60$ in price).

So really, it won't cost you much more money if you were to buy an actual SLI board later on in the game... You will have the benefit of owning a more mature revision of the boards, possibly even being able to own a superior board from another manufacturer. In 6 months you are likely to have a completely different picture of what to buy, and what motherboard to get. If its going to be 3 months before you buy everything else... WAIT.

Ya if you are not ready to put this whole system together now I really would wait until yo u can afford the whole set-up. 6 months is a long time in computerland and the prices and technology can change drastically in that time. With CPU's you can kind of predict the future with the roadmaps from AMD. But with these mobo's there could be a new revision on the horizon in 3 months that could make the board MUCH better than what is around right now.

Unless you plan on building the system right now I suggest you simply wait.
