did anyone heared about Direct X 8B ( d3dim700.dll )?? read....................

I read a post on amdzone.com forum. A guy with ATI rage video card 64 mb,(overclocked), AMD CPU overclocked to 1.15 ??? or so , and DX8B, gets around 4800 in 3dmark2001 .

WOW is this POSSIBLE> ?? I mean ATI Radeon 64mb is a GOOD card , but NOT THAT good . Even if he has the BEST drivers for it, he can't GET NEAR 4000 score mark, not to mantion 4800 . So I assume he gets most of his BOOST from Direct X8 B.

What do you guys think ?/
Whith my setup I get around 3900 Default setup.

If you look on Mad Onion, a lot of the 64 meg Radeon Cards are over 4000.

Were do you get DX8b?

Whoops! You were right, I musta been smoking crack 5 minutes ago, hehe, only a couple are over 4000.

There's some special "tweak" in the registry that enables a DX8 feature. And that is what boosts the score up to over 4000. Got Rage3d and it's listed in their forums or somewhere. In real world gaming the GeForce2 is still faster eventhough the 3dmark 2001 score might not reflect it.

Directx8.0 a is the latest version that clients can take advantage of. Dx8.0b only worked if you had the sdk and was for developers it supposedly did not have any advantages for end users!?!?

Did anyone acutally test it out and find differently? I did not bother getting 8.0b and the sdk?

Sirfin~

directx 8.0a was the worst thing to happen to computers in a very long time in mho, I wouldnt touch the 8.0b until they got the 8.0a right first! LOL :)

I d/l 3DMark 2001 quite a while ago (the day after it came out, I think), and when it said it needed to install DX8, I cancelled the install.

Can I assume from the last post that they're still having big problems w/ DX8 then??

Where the only "uninstall" of DX8 is to format and reinstall, I'm leery of doing this until I know for sure I can get a good copy that wont screw things up....

Ermmm

Hang on a second - I have DirectX8.0b normal install - what the hell - it installs just like any other directx - no SDKs either. I think i may have got it from a warez site (dont take me seriously dude), and its on my win98-boto cd with all my other drivers - and it can be verified so its not a re-mark.

Wierd. Hmm must get Rage3d.

Bye bye
