I am contemplating building a SMP machine.
For that, I am going to use two Duron (Morgan core) CPUs.

What are the differences between the AMD 760MP and the MPX. What is the problem with the MPX boards? I noticed that manufacturers bundle PCI USB (2.0) with their line-up of MPX boards, apparently because of the MPX USB problems? These seem to be resolved in the new crop of MPX based boards, like the TYAN Tiger 2466N-4M. And of course in al upcoming boards.

I have seen a nice special for a vanilla Tyan Tiger MP (not MPX) board for a nice price (refurbished). What would I sacrifice by going that route?

thanks for answers.

The MPX has a USB issue ranging from sporadic inoperabillity to none at all. That is why the manufacturers have included USB cards. The problem with these cards is that if you run a USB keyboard on them you'll never get into your bios because the card needs the OS and the driver loaded in order to work.

Now Diehrd says that the new MPX has the USB issues resolved. I hope he's right. If he is, my recommendation if you want a dual Duron system is to wait a little bit until the new MPX is totally in the market and the problems are resolved for sure. Just make sure you note the numbers on the new MPX so you can make sure you get the right age chip.

Diehrd will probably know the best way to identify the new MPX.

Kingslayer I almost feel like a close friend after our debates..

Tyan part # S2466N-4M USB on board works !

I favor Tyan dont ask why cause I dont know . Probobly cause AMD entrusted them to develope the Very first AMD Dual .
