You can put any combinations of RAM into a Dell (in theory) Ive done it with 2 64MB + 256MB and ran fine (needed BIOS update but the machine was rather old)

ECC means 'Error Correcting Code' (or sometrhing close to it)

its generally used in servers for better performance. or something, it costs a lot more and is harder to find usually

If your computer has ECC memory you CANNOT put in Non-ECC ram and expect it to work, it all must be the same type.
