digidoc 5/ 7v mod question

I have a probelm.

I suppose that's nothing new around here, but your help would be greatly appreciated ;)

I originally intended to take the digidoc5 i jst got and to add on a toggle switch which would have two settings: one for normal ground and one for 5v 'ground'. I would then connect this toggle switch output to four pass through connectors to bypass the digidocs ground wire setting and thus be able to switch between loud and quiet with the 7v mod.

Well.... as you can see in my pic... it works, sort of. I can switch between 7v and 12v fine, but I assumed that the digidoc turns its fans off by cutting flow to the 12v line, when it really cuts flow to the ground instead. and so it follows that because I bypassed the digidoc's ground wire for each of these fans the digidoc has no ability to turn my fans off. i want to turn them off because these will end up being my extra case fans after I put in a relay for my main system fans.

any ideas on how i could get the 7v mod to work and be able to turn the fans off too? i have run out of ideas.

any help would be appreciated. thanks.

well basically I added a DPDT relay switch for the Delta 12cm 130CFM fans that i have on my Black Ice radiator. It's connected to only single fan header on the DD5.

Take care,

Al

hi al~

yeah... i saw your post from way back on the dpdt relays and i have two of those relays for my main system fans (haven't gotten around to doing it yet), but i have a few extra that i don't want on all the time...

i am thinking a rheostat might be the answer since it runs off the 12v line....

thanks for the reply.

hi Dew,

got your message.

if it's the same switch, it should work fine...

are the vertical ones A&B? No right, they should be 5-6 in this case.

OK if the vertical ones are 5 and 6 , wire it like this. DD5 header 5-6 , connect 5 to 1 and 6 to 2... the fan on 3-4... and PS to A & B...
make sure the red wire (+5) of PSU is not on the opposite side, according to others... meaning if red wires are on 1 - 3 -5 , PS's red should be on B...

If it's confusing e-mail me @ [email protected], I'll send you the diagram...
