would it be wise to use a 80 w pelt directly on the cpu without a cold plate?
and what are some good ways to insulate pelts and water blocks
 
you should defenently use a coldplate i think... my choice. and for insalation get some Neoprene Rubber you can find it at dangerden.com
 
you want the coldplate. it dissipates the heat into a larger area for the pelt to pump away, using the entire surface area of the pelt to do so

You can also use the rubber on the bottom of all those cheap mouse pads. They only cost a few bucks! And its pretty much the same thing.
