I installed DirectX 8.1 so I can run 3DMark2001SE. Now I keep getting messages that my 3D accelerator does not support the additional features! Also, I cannot run 3DMark2001 anymore. It says I need a DirectX 8 compatible card. I was using the 22.80's. I reinstalled these, but it didn't work. I installed the 27.20's, that didn't work either. I can't complete the DirectX Diagnostic function either now.
I have a Gainward G3 Ti/550, Win98SE. Apart from a reformat  , what can I do to fix this??

Have you tried to install DX8, or DX7 over the 8.1? have you tried to install 3dmark again? your can remove the DX8.1 and back your registry up to the last time it ran correctly.

I tried installing Dx8 on top of 8.1. Didn't help. Didn't try reinstalling 3DMark2k1 or 2K1SE. I just used DirectX Eradicator 1.08 and reinstalled DX8. It works fine now. I just have to live w/o 3DMk2k1SE for now.

I downloaded 8.1 from another site. Uninstalled both 3DMark tests. In safemode, installed DX8.1. Installed 3DMark2001SE. It works!:)
