VP6 2-700p3,2-Maxtor 20.4ata100 0n Raid0, 512meg Mushkin 133 Infineon, Voodoo 3000. I load W2k, everything goes fine but after several reboots for driver installs I get the blue screen of death c0000218:registry failer, cannot load hive file system root\system32\config\software! I have tried everything, different memory, single drive on dma66, single cpu, changed cd rom, changed cables and it always comes up the same. I have ran out of ideas. Did you have any similar problems with your installation?

Are you overclocking? Registry errors are often related to I/O voltage, you may want to bump up to 3.4 or 3.5v if you are still at 3.3v. Maxtor drives have shown to be problematic when overclocking also, but if you are having the problem at default settings that may not be too likely.

I have a VP6 with PIII-700 cc0's @1GHz running 2000 server and it has never given me any problems. Are you using a clean install?

Not OC'd, default voltage, our friends at Microsoft say it is a memory problem but I have used the best and no help. Abit has not had the time to answer my questions about this problem nor has HighPoint. I have run out of ideas. Always a clean install!

I have seen mention on other forums that the VP6 doesn't like having all 4 DIMM slots filled. Like you I have 4x 128MB Mushkin Rev2 on mine, and it hasn't been a problem, but some folks have had better luck when removing a stick. Might give it a try, and I would try bumping the I/O volts up in the bios- perhaps at different times so you can tell what's really happening.

make sure both heatsinks are on good ,, had it happen on a supermicro dually once ,,one sink was cocked and it ran ,but real crazy

Look in the MS knowledge base for the keyword "hive" this will explain a workaround.
if you can boot...go into ctrl pnl , system, performance options..virtual memory, and limit the registry size to 15mb, and reboot, or when you install...before loading too many of your peripheral drivers, and rebooting, use that time to limit the registry, and then load all your stuff. I don't understand why, I just know it works on some machines. Hope this helps

Dear Beavrsqueezer,
Have you ever been biten while attempting to squeeze beavers?

Only once and it was good!!!!!!!!!!

Atleast your VP6's turn on. I have my second one and it will not turn my monator on. I thought it was the processor so I went out and bought a 550e today and it still does not work.
