I have a friend with a P2B who is looking to upgrade for little money so he can play Tribes 2. Currently he is running with a Pentium II 450 MHz processor. I, however, have a spare PIII 700 MHz that I was thinking I could sell to him. Unfortunately it is not clear based on the manual and online specifications whether the P2B can accept PIII 700 MHz processors. My gut feeling is it most likely can, since my Abit BH6 board (which I hate, but let's not go into that) can support PIII Coppermine processors, but I just wanted to find out for sure. For various reasons it's not practical to actually try the processor in the board just to see if it works.

Please let me know.

Thanks!

The answer is YES. I'm fairly new at this game, but I do have the same motherboard-Asus P2B. I found information on the Asus website with specs for Pentium III, 650~800 mhz, w/adapter for slot 1. I am installing the 800 mhz this weekend and according to Asus, the P2B should support it. I would suggest checking out the website yourself to verify. There are also bios revisions listed which should be made. http://www.asus.com/products/techref/Cpu/p3cpu.html

STOP EVERYTHING!! Very important! There is more than one version of this board. Mine is an earlier version and is not compatible w/P3. I just found out the hard way. Please check the version that you have w/Asus tech support to verify that it will work.

Good answer J-dogg......that part is true and you beat me to it. P3B had 2 designs. Early versions DON'T suport the fast processors. Which version do you have?

Yes, do not panic yet.

Tan did a post noy long ago on the PIII\P2B.
I have two P2B boards.
Ver 1.02 and ver 1.04.
After reveiwing Ton's article I pulled them both off the shelf. The P2B is by far the best board I have used. Unfortunatlly, technology moves on and so did I, to the P3V4X.
Any way with the latest bios rev. 1012 and an ASUS S370-133 slot one adapter, a few voltage adjustments on the adapter, I was able to post-up on the rev 1.02 with a PIII\700 flip chip sl45y. I then clocked it to 933 and it posted again.
The rev. 1.04 board would not yield the same results.

The P2B lives on.

Smokin!!
