hi I have a PAL8045 and i don't know whether to lap or not, i can see that the surface is already smooth, do i get lower temps if i lap it or just leave it as it is?

The best way I can think of to tell, is use some 600-1000 grit paper on a good clean flat surface. Just make one circle around the paper. If it sands some spots and not others, then it's not flat, so add some water and keep on going until it's all the same finish. No need to push hard into the sandpaper, and don't squeeze the fins...this can bow the base and make the sanding uneven. Grip it by the edge of the base with your fingertips. Light even pressure.

Some people use the calibrated eye and a straight edge to check flatness, but that's hard to use accurately.

Have fun!
