Does my RAC seem right?

I'm very new to SETI, or really any crunching application at all, however it seems like my numbers are really low compared to other members.

My Q6600 is at stock clocks running @ 75% proc usage (had to go back to stock cooler, since I traded my TRUE) however at that according to the website the average credit is only 440.39.

Does that sound right? I know the chip is currently pretty gimped with the poor cooling, but not even 500 seems awful low.

Also my P4 3.2 is listed as only 166.39.

Are these scores correct? I am running the optimized SSE3 applications that I found from the Sticky. I know I can't compare to the 3k a day + Q6600's until I get proper cooling back installed, but at under 500, is that right?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.


One other thing, does pending credits ever really catch up? Right now I have ~9600 credits but another ~6500 pending.

For all the machines I'm running, here are my total stats (hopefully which will improve)

EDIT: Here are the computers that are on the account. All have been crunching 24x7 since Wednesday except the 2nd P4, which just got added today and my laptop which I had to take with me over the weekend.

If you recently started crunching with those machines, it will take a while for your RAC to get up to it's full potential. How long have you been crunching with the Q6600 system and the P4?

I would think that your Q6600 at stock clocks and 75% processor usage should stabilize around 2000 RAC when running the optimized apps. And your P4 should be good for at least 500 RAC running the correct optimized apps too. Just to give you an idea of what a dedicated and overclocked Q6600 can do, I have one running at 3510 MHz and a dedicated cruncher. It's RAC is around 4600. But it took close to a month for it to stabilize there (was upgraded from a E6750).

Thanks, thats what I was hoping to hear. The one P4 and laptop (non dual core) have been 24x7 since Wednesday afternoon. The Q6600 has been 24x7 since Wednesday night. The dual core laptop was on and off so I'm not really counting that.

I was mainly concerned for the Q6600. Like I said I have 9600 done but 6500 in pending so I am assuming a lot of that is catch-up for the Q6600.

Once I get my wc setup shipped to me, I am shooting for a steady OC of 3.4 -> 3.5 on my Q with my current mobo (680i). I am also in the process of setting back up my 4200x2 to be a dedicated cruncher, plus computers at work (the P4's) are slowly joining the crunching bandwagon.

As muddocktor has said it all takes time to settle out. Unlike a lot of distributed computing projects, SETI "validates" each work unit (WU) before giving credit for it. Validation requires another computer to turn in the same results as you so about half your current WUs, on average, are not yet validated/credited.

If you look at "Your results" pages (left hand menu in BOINC advanced view) you'll see many completed WUs with "pending" next to them. Over time the number of older WUs getting validated each day balances with the number of pending units turned in - that's when your "real" daily numbers start showing. Since RAC = Recent Average Credit it takes another 8-9 days beyond that for your RAC to reflect your real daily credits.

I guess my AS5 just settled on my Q and now I am able to run it at 100% right under the 70°C limit. I hate the Intel stock cooler with a passion.

Up to 8 machines running now. Hopefully 10-11 by the weekend
