Does seti use L3 cache?

The xeon 2ghz xeon MP processors have 2 mb L3.

so... would seti use the L3 like the L1 And L2 if so.. I wanna Dual xeon.

Yeah, SETI will use the L3. The L-whatever chache is just a load of super high speed memory directly on the core (or if the L3 for some odd reason is off core.... would be off core =P ). SETI's variables and frequently used stuff would reside there which is why it runs faster on systems with a lot of cache. To SETI, there is no diffrence in L1 and L2 (or L3) because AFAIK the CPU itself handles where it wants to stick the data.

yep that cache should give pretty good times, and should be able to store the whole client in cache, meaning that the cpu wont have to access the much slower system ram. but as always you need to sell body parts to afford one

...particularly the 2GHz model. They're built on the new Gallatin core. Those babies will HyperThread very well but you will need an OS optimized for HyperThreading. There are some Linux variants and .NET server coming early next year (or a Release Candidate now).
