Doom3 Benchmarks using P4's what for ???

We know the A64's are much better and faster in 3d Apps so why do websites still use P4's for testing how well games will run with certain video cards.

I just looked @ Hordocp's benchamrks and they used a Dell 3.2 p4 for one setup using the 9800Xt and a 3.6P4 using the x800xt PE or the other Nvidia cards.

I wish they would use A64's. Seeing as the Dell 3.2ghz with the 9800xt got like 30-40fps using 1024x768 4xAA 8xAF and No AA and 8xAF, my system should be able to run it fine with much higher fram rates.

I'd say because they wanted to do pci-express benches as well.

I have been thinkin about gettin a amd64, but I haven't seen many benchmarks that have shown that much of a difference in games to be worth the sacrifice in raw speed.

When a game is that graphically intense you will will see very little difference between something like a P4 3.2 and an A64 3200+/3400+/etc..

Sure 3dmark2k1 will show a big difference, but 3dmark2k1 ain't DIII.

I'm sure they, along with many other review sites will be doing a more through review. The benchmarks were done at id so I have a feeling they used computers that were supplied by id.

iD used computers supplied by Dell. And to answer the question of the thread, have you seen a PCI express A64? I haven't. Besides, it isn't that much of a diference anyway.

depends on the p4 candyman, in the far cry forums my oc'd p4 waxed 99 percent of the a64s and some of the fxs running similar vid cards.

Yes but i want to start seeing AMD benchmarks to get an idea. Im tired of seeing for years everywhere using P4's for this. They need to use both.

The hardocp benches were just a start. They have a full hardware guide for Doom3 coming out soon and that includes a variety of different PC configurations (including AMD processors) and just about every video card suitable for Doom3.

They should do a number of Benchmarks...

One for Intel, one for AMD, another for AMD64, one for Mac (Yeah right...Like people even make games for that system...LOL, Might as well do one for the Commodore 64 then while your at it.)

Think DIII will run on my C64 or is it time to upgrade?

ps I have it overclocked to 1 khz.

It is true that most people don't build their own machines and, hence, use Intel chips. So it kinda makes sense that they benchmarked it on a P4. I think the point was to answer the question that everybody and their brother is asking - "Will my system run it?". So they used the more mainstream setup.

Once the game comes out, there will be ample tests on the A64 I'm sure. It has been consistently benchmarking higher for games for a while now.

For one thing Dell is offering PCI-E systems and the ATI PCI-E X800XT cards. Where else could you secure those components?

If the systems were supplied then they possibly had no choice. I also agree that seeing as most PCs are Intel based then it would be fair to sue Intels for the comparison.

If they had used AMD64 CPUs then surely the Intel camp would be complaining ;)

Because P4s rox0r the box0rz of those AMD creeps. Hahahaa!

This does not contribute anything to the discussion and was a rather pointless post. Its almost flamebaiting, and not needed here.
