I tried to run one of my favorite DOS games, Liero (Think realtime 1-on-1 Worms), but I wasn't able to start it up - the window would just suddenly close. I was able to run it on Windows 98, but no such luck on XP Home. Is there something that I did wrong / should be able to download to fix this? Thanks!

You should google for liero xtreme (or something like that) I have that on XP Pro and it works just fine. I'm not really sure, but I think that you just have an too old version.

edit.

here's a link to a thread about liero: the thread there should be links to that liero extreme I mentioned.
