I have had a monoprice mechanical keyboard for a little over 6 years now, and it's been fine until recently it more often registers two keys for one input. It uses a OUTEMU red switches. I'm going into a writing heavy semester and I don't want to deal with this issue. Is there an easy way to clean or fix this problem or should I look into another keyboard.

I'm really happy with my Keychron K7 (I use it every day at work) and I could be talked into upgrading to something similar with a 10 key fairly easily if it will help me write. I'd rather not spend the money and generate waste, but I also recognize that when I purchased this keyboard my intention was never to use it for heavy writing, as I paid less than $25 for it open box and have definitely gotten $25 of use out of it.

Double presses are usually poorly seated switches in a hotswap board.. reseating could help, or if you're using a plastic plate, switch to something stiffer like alu or steel.

I don't think it's hot swappable, I've never opened it up. It is heavy and has a metal (probably steel) base.

Well I'm thinking it's probably a wear issue more than anything, and thinking about how much better my K7 is makes me more ready to upgrade.

I'm thinking to get the K10 in Gateron Brown for $85 is my sweet spot.

I also considered the C2, it's $16 cheaper and hot swappable, but I like the metal frame of the K7 so I think alu is worth $16. Also with the wireless I could more easily use it for my laptop if needed.

I also considered the Hot swappable version of K10, but I'm not "into" keyboards I just want something functional and forget it. Also I'll be writing a lot for a couple of months but it's not like I'll be doing years of intensive use so it doesn't seem worth such an investment in time or money.

The K4 looks cool but my disorganized chaos will eat desk space regardless so it doesn't matter much. Lots of keychron switches for less money, but I'm skeptical. I know the Gateron Brown LP works for me so I figured the full travel will be fine. If I wanted a cheaper keyboard I would try to rinse my existing one with alcohol or run it thru the dishwasher.

Any other solid recs under $100 or any flaws in my reasoning?

Edit: I may have found my sweet spot with the K17, using the same LP switches I know and like from the K17 but with more keys. I don't really need a volume knob since I have an amp on my desk, but it can't hurt either. I know often LP switches are regarded as inferior, but it seems to work for me. Also reconsidering the V series since they have a cushion or damper under the switches, but no metal frame. Finally also considering using the same, as the issue seems to be mostly resolved (maybe it was a glitch with Canvas - crappy site is crappy and I only write short things in there, or maybe even an operator error as I just hadn't typed much for a bit). This keyboard is definitely more fatiguing than the K7 though.

Edit: got the K10 with browns. Basically the full size version of what I had in the K7.
