Has anyone heard of drivers for an AMD CPU, I was at another site and some guy was told to download new drivers for his CPU. Cause of where it say in Device Manager in Windows XP.

yup i'm running winxp home and i downloaded new drivers for my xp processor... not sure what they did tho i didnt see a difference

yes they do make a difference.

Make a clean install, then press alt-ctr-del. You will see proc usage is like 3-10% while doing nuthing or browsing the net. With the new drivers my CPU usage went to 0%-4%. I think it simply optimizes kernel for AMD's instruction set. Not sure ;)

Yes, the drivers provide support for AMD processors - allow MMX, 3dnow etc optomisations.

There will be similar ones for Pentium4s - using SSE/SSE2

Are u 100% cause I really don't feel like downloading lots of stuff w/ a 56K modem, so I have to be 100% sure..

I did it all on a 46.6k connection :D
Just leave it overnight if there are a lot of dls.

I checked and downloaded some updates... but there were no driver updates for the CPU, only Sound card and NIC driver updates.. whacha think? I'm running WinXP on my Duron.

Check out tweak XP - www.tweak-xp.com I think - this allows you to enable a CPU 'tweak' - supported tweaks are for AMD K6-2, K6-3, Duron, Athlon and Athlon Thunderbird, Cyrix M3, Intel Celeron A/II, Pentium II, Pentium III, Pentium III E/EB, Pentium4.
