Where are they on the XP Pro home CD ? and can I use them on windows 98se ? If so how can I get them to work in 98se ? I need the drivers for my AC 97 sound card and XP gots the m:)

thanks

I would just go to the manufactures website and download the drivers. I'm 99% sure you cant use XP drivers and have them work in 98SE.

I'm sure 98se supports the AC 97 sound card. You should have got a driver disk w/ your card/board. Or you can download the drivers.

If I'm not mistaken, it's in the CAB files for Setup. So you'll have a hard time searching them around ! That's how I remember it, I'm not sure though

XP uses a Hardware Abstraction Layer - 98SE uses the hardware directly. Drivers are not compatible.

www.windowsupdate.com has those drivers....should be listed at the bottom after you run it. At least it always has on EVERY board i've tried with onboard sound. Or go to mfgr. website.....

And 99% about those XP drivers....check that to 100% not gonna work.

What is the "Hardware Abstraction Layer" that XP uses as compared to 98SE using the hardware directly?

An answer to this will probably explain why so much hardware and software that worked with 98 will not now work with XP.
