Returned from school today and my computer took an unwanted trip down three or four stairs. First thing I noticed when inspecting it afterwards is that all the plug spots on the back were out line, so the mobo obviously got jostled pretty hard.

Tried running it with the off-center mobo, and nothing came up on the monitor. Pushed in all the cards inside, and didnt see any other obviously loose connections.

Still no go.

I took out the cards, and repositioned the mobo correctly, and I am still getting nothing on my monitor. All the mobo and pc lights come on correctly, with fans wirring and everything.

I tested my 3d card in another computer, so it and the monitor are working fine. Of note, my 3d card would only run about half of the time it was plugged in. Half the time it was cold with no or little fan movement, other times fan would circle and it would heat up.

So, I am thinking it is something to do with my mobo, and possibily the video card part of it. I dont know the model/brand of my mobo, and dont know where to look on it to find out, save possibily taking it out and searching everywhere on it.

Any help getting this fixed would be appreciated, thanks.

ouch.

take the heatsink off and check the core on the processor, it might have been chipped or cracked. also, reseat the ram and try to get the motherboard to line up as best as you can.

The cpu "looked" fine, although one corner was a little fishy looking. Will get a better look tommorow when I get some nail polish remover to get rid of all the pink stock stuff. And I was planning on putting on a new HSF this weekend...

Anything I should look for besides the obvious on the CPU? Also any good way to tell if is the mobo or CPU?

I kicked my pc

Hahaha...I love doing that. Takes the frustration out. I haven't kicked my new one, but my old P2 266 Gateway still has black sneaker marks on the front.

My buddy slapped his old celeron 366, and now the hd does not work at all. How is this possible?

I have a rich friend who hit his brand new lcd a lot, and now it has spots were clusters of pixels were dead... his dad threw a fit and got it replaced from the manufacturers (how is this possible)

LOL. Problem was, i didnt do it on purpose:eek: I ended more frustrated AND had a dead cpu as a bonus.

Great day that was......great day:mad:

My old computers Tnt 2 had a noisy fan and banging the top of the box would get it to quiet up after a few times. Then one day it stopped working when I conked it. Turns out I just knocked the processer loose. Of course, back when my Dad had a say, he wanted it to be taken to Bestbuy to be fixed. Took them 4 weeks.

Wait! I'm helping hijack my own thread.

Anyways, after closely looking at the core, it does not looked chipped or anything. Assuming its not the cpu, any way I can test the mobo? No computers I can easily test an AMD in, so can't do that.

Thanks

heh, sorry about the hijacking.

try unpluging everything that isn't needed to boot the computer. make sure the motherboard isn't shorting out against the case and double check the socket, it might have been damaged by the heatsink.

if the CPU looks fine then i hate to say it but your motherboard might be dead. if there's a computer store near you they might be a willing to try your processor in another motherboard, you might have to pay a little cash but as long as it's not too much it might be worth it. if the processor checks out ok then that pretty much only leaves the motherboard.

yeah thinking about it - my board wouldn't boot at all first time around. i found out it was my soundcard. after removing it and re-installing it - the board booted without any problems
