about dual channel ram, do both the ram have to be the same size or can one stick be 256MB and the other 512MB both PC2700?

The RAM sticks dont exactly have to be the same amount. But the banks that they are in have to be. Say if 1&2 were one channel and 3 was on a different channel you could have 2 x 256Mb in 1 &2 and 512 in 3 and still use DCDDR.

I don't get it :\ I only have the 512MB stick and a 256 MB stick. Well gonna have.

you need another 256 in order to use those sticks in dc.
If you already have 1 256MB and 1 512MB. You could put the 512 Mb in slot 3 by itself (slot 3 is on its own channel). Then you put the 256 in slot 1 and another 256 in slot 2 (slot 1 and Slot 2 are on the same channel). This way the sum of slot 1 & slot 2 equals 512 and slot 3 equals 512 as well.

hmmmmmm.......
i was under the impression that dual channel only worked with 2 sticks.... banks 1 and 3 or banks 2 and 3.
