Greetings,

So I currently have a single 1080 monitor connected to my pc. I am considering adding a second monitor (4k). I will be working with editing 4k video content, and having a 4k monitor would be obviously useful.

Is it possible for me to run a 4k monitor, and a 1080p monitor at the same time?

What would you recommend around 27''? I do some light gaming on this pc, but its mostly just for normal browsing, life management, etc.

i5-3570k, 32g 1866 ram, 2x HD 7970 OC.

I had 7950's before my 1070, and I ran a 1440p and 900p together with no issues. My 1440p was my main monitor and my 900p was a secondary I used for a side things (web browsing, etc).

+1

You can run disparate resolutions not problem. I have 2X 1080 screens a 1440 main and a 1080 TV above.

The issue you will have is your 7970's running 4K gaming. You could always run at a lower res though. It will scale fine.

You will also run into the size of text and icons. I have the same setup you are asking about a 28" 4k and 27" 1080 monitor. The 4k monitor is awesome, you can fit so much on that screen, but scaling is horrible when sitting next to a 1080p monitor of almost the same size. If I had a 23-24" 1080 next to a 34+ 4K it might be easier to handle, but I ended up just running both at 1080 for the most part and switching to 4k when I wanted to mess photo editing. I did run the 4k for awhile at 1440p which was a pretty nice compromise between the two settings, but again same size monitor and two different resolutions will get old after awhile, it did for me at least.

That's actually a great solution. Run both in 1080 until I need to run something in 4k.... Then switch it, thanks for the input!

I have a 23" 1080 monitor and a 43" 4K monitor. With that size, the text on the 4K monitor is the same size as the 1080 monitor!
