Any recommendations on flip chip boards?
I have one 667EB flip chip now and with the price drop I
was thinking of getting a second chip and a board to go
with it.

I us NT for the OS already........
I have a p3v4x board right now. So I have a slot adapter.
If the slot boards are better for dual systems then I can go
that way as well.

Flip chip or Slot opinions on Dual processor boards.

Thank you for your time and have a good day

what size power supply do most people use on an SMP system?

my P3V4X has the 694X chipset. I had read theat the 694 had
a poor memory bandwidth. Would this be amplified by the
fact that two processors are now trying to squeeze data
out of memory?

Well the VIA chipset's downfall is its lack of bandwidth it really does not have anything to do with 2 CPU's there are things you can do to get better bandwidth though. running 150 or better cas222 memory and to have your BIOS optimized for best performance.

the Vp-6 is supposed to be a good board, but you aren't going to be overclocking that chip much. if you get a 150mhz bus you will only get them to 750 each. Why not just cobble together a second computer. The second cpu is not going to give a huge leap in performance, and if you already getting a new mobo and cpu, why not just get the other stuff and run two computers?

that is a good point.
I have never put together an SMP system I kind of wanted
to do it for the sake of experience.
I don't do much game stuff. I use AutoCAD and write programs in VB and VC++
VB does stuff that ties up autocad for 20 min on my current system.
I thought that with a second processor I could still do some other things. While autocad is cranking away it takes 50 sec just to minimize the acad window. I would like to be able to just check email while autocad is going.
I was thinking of getting an AMD board and an Athalon.
AMD just does not seem to have the dual processor thing down yet IMO.
thank you for your time and have a good day

nop .. dont take it .. an tbird 1 ghz will be faster !! it hasnt the 2x speed.. all u !! cant understand this?? the only advantage is in autocad .. it is 25% faster.. memory bendwidth is increased at about 4% .. 1 proccessor and good in my opinion .. search for some benchmarks and u will understand .. u must now..
in dualities the cpus dont do the same thing together .. the one cpu has the agp port, the other cpu looks for the RAM and the PCIs and the 2nd for the Devices for ex. buy a tbird 1000 or piii 1000 ..

I have been waffiling between the new thunderbird AYH's with the new PC2400 DDR but I have a problem.
With the thunderbirds you need like a 400W power supply as a min. Those cost a little bit and the swiftech MC462 heat sink is not a cheap item either.
It seems that AMD's chip is cheaper but the cost is higher on other items. AMD's to put out more heat then the intel chips do IMO.

SMP:
I write VB programs that use excel and autocad. Excel runs in its own thread, my VB prog runs in its own thread, and AutoCAD runs in its own thread. At work we have tested the SMP setup. circuiting 5,000 receptacles and 5,000 light fixtures was the test. The computer at work was a PIII800.
one processor it took 25 sec. with SMP it took 16 sec. I see this as about a 56% improvement.
I know it is not huge but it is noticable.

I thank everyone for your input and your opinions. Thank you for your time and have a good day
