this is my 3rd configuration now. Still some tidying up to do, ramsinks on the powerfets and all the sound absoprption to be added and bubbles to be eradicated but im very happy. This thing is hugely quiet.... inaudiable (unless you put your ear 2 an inch away from it) and thats at 3am in teh morning when theres not one sound in my house, even with the hum of the fridge in the kitchen disabled. Turning it on is quite spooky cos it just doesn't make any apprecaible noise at all.
spec is:
res->
(loop1)
>1250->BIX->BIX2->WW->
(loop2)
->1048->BIMicro2->DD Maze4 gpu->DD Z block->Aquadrive 1->Aquadrive 2
->res
everything is soft mounted, suspended or decoupled, nothing is actually touching the case apart from foam padding. Also all fans are mounted to rads and fan converters using sticky sponge gaskets.. absolutely no screws or rubber fan isolators (which IMO don't work at all). The hard drive watercoolers are from aqua computer in germany and both drives are wrapped in heavy sound absorption material. The psu is a nexus, teh quietest fanned psu i've personally ever heard. The rest of the system is a 3.06 @ 3533, canterwood board, 1gb corsair xms, radeon 9800 pro.
fans are:
BIMicro: x2 80mm Papst 8412NGL
BIX: x1 92mm 3412NGL
BIX2: x2 Panaflo 24M1a
note, no 120mm fans as they're all way too loud IMO. I have papst and panaflow 120mm but sadly they dont make a quiet system.
temps:
with all 80mm at 12v and the 92mm at 7v i get:
case: 27-29c
psu heatsink: 44-57c
res water idle : 25.4c
res water load: 26.9c
ambient incoming air: 21.6c
cpu idle: 34c
cpu load: 42c
(load = x50 tests of prime95)
the system is *very* quiet like this but in complete silence mode with all fans at 7v the cpu goes up to 44c load
In my old system to achive a similar level of silence (but without the hard drives enclosed so it was never as good) I was hitting 56+c under load
the future: well i may look at a watercooled psu but to be honest if i use a pen to stop teh fan in the nexux psu there really isn't alot of difference. besides, its important to have some sort of exhaust.
