Well I have had this system for a little while. It consists of:

2x Celeron 500's
Abit BP6
3x 128MB PC100 Ram (currently)
10GB Maxtor HD
250W Sparkle PS (Voltages seem stable)
48x CDRW

Anyway on to the problem. I have been having problems with it locking up. I can get into windows, but when I do anything, it would lock up. At first I thought that maybe the processors were overheating. I reapplied the thermal paste, and was getting load temps of like 33C. So I dont think that they are overheating.

Then I got to thinking of Ram. I started running memtest on my 3x 256MB sicks of Kingston. Sure enough, they were failing at 97MB into them. A clean install of Win2k3 used about 94mb, so when I open anything, it was hitting the failing addresses. So I swapped out the ram for the above listed. I then ran memtest overnight, and it went all night long. So I figured that I solved the Ram issue.

I booted up the computer, and it booted and I could open stuff now. I decided just for the heck of it, to run Prime95. It ran all day today with no errors, so I figured that solved my problem. Now, when I go to install my programs (AV, CDRW SW, etc) I can install a few programs, then it locks up. It is totally random as to when it locks up. I can't figure it out. I checked the Caps on the board (this board was known for bad caps), they seem to be alright. So I decide to run Prime95 again, it runs without a hitch. WTF, why does memtest and prime95 run, but it locks up. Any Ideas?? BTW, it's not overclocked either.

Can you look in th eevenbt viewer and see what is listed for application errors

I would try a different hard drive or check the cable to it..

My next plan of attack was the HD. Now that you mention it, I did notice than when it locked up, the HD light would be on steady, but no HD activity could be heard. I will swap out the HD and see if that helps.

Check the caps on the mobo. Alot of bp6 motherboards have similar problems as your's, most have to do with the buldging caps on the board. You can find all the info you need on bp-6.com.
good luck
