Ducts 411

I have seen many posts about ducts in here, just wondering how it works and where you can get the parts for it, what air is being pushed through it? Never gotten much info on it and i'm interested in maybe doing it but i wanna learn more,

There can be many approaches to Ducting. A Duct can be as simple as an adaptor that sits on your heatsink, allowing a larger fan to be used. some people use ducts to guide air blowing into their case twords a specific place such as the CPU or Graphics Card.

ah gotcha i thought it was used to like channel the air off your a/c vent into your cpu area , i've been considering something like that, anyone got any links to that kinda stuff?

Yeah, it could be used like that, I though you were talking about internal ducting.

There are some interesting articles on Ducts on the main OC page under Tips & Techniques -> Case Cooling. I went the super low tech route and bought a white dryer hose duct for $2.50 from the local hardware store, cut it down to the right length and slipped one end over my 80mm HSF and the other over the side intake fan on my case. Before closing the case, I just slide it onto the fan case on the side and then close it up. (I took the fan out since it doesn't need to run now and just left the case so the duct would have something to slip onto) Works great and makes for one less fan that I need to run.
