I have one of those aluminum mesh filters headed my direction. I was wondering about the cfm reduction and noise increase....that review was very informative. I also have one of these coming to me...

I am gonna compare these two on my side intake 120mm fan and see ( hear) if there any differences in noise...which will be small indeed since the 120mm fan is already real quiet. I'll post back in a few days after the filters arrive and tested.

Bah, where do you guys get cans of compressed air from? o_O I've looked all over the generic hardware and random stores here in NZ (Warehouse, Mitre10, Hammer Hardware) and I can't for the life of me find any compressed air in cans =\.

It's getting to the point where I'm almost tempted to get it shipped in from America... UV Acrylic case + dust = looks like crap

No idea where you could get them in NZ , the next time you are @ your local PC store ask them im sure the techs use some.
But in the long run it is way better to get a compressor and a hose =)

A lot of people don't think of this as being really important and I didn't either until I gave a friend an eVGA 6800GT which I had for 2 years without any problems. After about 2 days use, he said that he smelled "burnt hair" and saw a small amount of smoke coming from his PC. His monitor also went black. He then took everything apart and noticed that there was a bunring smell coming off the GPU and he noticed that there was a lot of dust and dog hair which appearantly made contact with a ram module on his card and it shorted it out. It actually melted the wax off the board and the card became a very expensive paper weight. Lesson, clean out your PC and use fan covers/filters if possible.

This same topic was batted around here: http://www.ocforums.com/showthread.php?t=495294

I agreed with one of the posters that suggested getting a good room air purifier will keep a lot of dust...hair...smoke...etc...from ever getting to the computer in the first place. And then along with some good grills/filters on the intake fans, the amount of dust that gets inside the case will be kept to a very low amount and won't require cleaning as often.

Everyone should have an air compressor.
Especialy if we assume everyone has both PC's and a CAR that needs tire pressure adjusted.

Filters are nice... But i think they only delay the inevitable need for an air compressor. And heck, thats the fun part!

Okay...how about this...if you have a wife, tell her that you will buy her a nice room air purifier that will keep her dusting down to a minumum...and then she won't care too much when you buy yourself a nice air compressor!!
