How should I configure these 2 drives? Yes, I'm aware of the redundancy. I tried putting the jumpers for both on Cable select, and then letting the cd drive be the master, but the comp would hang in the POST right after detecting the ide drives. It did detect them correctly. Still trying to figure it out. I'll try switching them and setting them to master/slave settings by jumper next. And I'll try to run the new DVD drive solo as well. Hoping this new DVD drive is ok... purchased from Fry's, but it had been previously purchased/opened, then returned. They test their returns, right? I mean if something is returned because its crap, they don't just put it back in the box and stick it on the shelf, right?

Most of the time I personally just let the cables select the spot for these drives. I rarely use jumpers on them, never had a reason to unless something else wasnt quite right on it. Try it without jumpers and see what it does. After you test the DVD alone.

As far as them testing it, I would imagine they would, due to that Ive heard nothing but good about them. But its possible they wouldnt.

Convinced my girlfriend that she had no need of the cd drive, and installed the dvd drive solo. Working fine now.
