about an hor ago i installed a new dvd player.
its a Hitachi 16x48 from Gateway so its completely compatible with my Gateway.
when i hit play button nothin happens when using the player that came with the dvd drive.
the screen just sits there but with no movie.
when i tried to use the ATI DVD playback, i hit the play button and get this error:
dvd playback did not start due to one of these reasons:
1. sound device is in use or not installed.

2. video overlay not available.

3. not enough video memory.

well what does no. 2 mean cause i know it cant be 1 or 3.

thanx

I don't think you need a hardware overlay just to play a DVD. I would check for conflicts and reinstall the drivers for the dvd. which software player are you using to play DVDs.

well, i tried using my new ati radeon which is supposed to have great dvd playback but i get the errors above.
then i try to use Cineplayer which came with the Hitachi dvd drive and i get the sound coming from the dvd but no picture.

1-Uninstall everything.

2-Reinstall the dvdrom drivers. Reboot.
3-Then reinstall the radeon drivers. Reboot.
4-Install Windvd or Powerdvd if you have them, otherwise you're stuck with their software...

5- (see 1-4) The order is important here.

Afraid they're all oem bundled software, else you have to go to cyberlink's website for powerdvd (windvd I have no idea who sells). Someone here might have an extra copy you could download, dunno (I don't).

ill check out cyberlink for that trial version of powerdvd.
