can some please explain to me dvd writes. I want one that can burn all media. My friend had a dvd-rw and it only was able to burn rws. So what type can burn all dvd media and why do they have different burners, why not have all burners burn all types of media like cd burners

If you want one that burns dvd+r and dvd-r, then you can obviously get burners that are both + and -. Some are either or, some are both. The newer ones now are the dual layer dvds. The + and - are different formats; nowadays most dvd drives can play both. It's just that the dvd-r's were out first so might be a bit more compatible with everything else. There's been a lot of discussion about the +,- formats so you could run a quick search about it.
