Hey Everyone,
Im planning a personal project now that I final was able to finish cutting Fushy's case panels.. anyway, Im looking for a dvdrw and or cdrw that will operate standing up on end so that the tray opens downward. Anyone know of such a drive??

Cheers and Happy Holidays!!!

I'm sure laptop drivers (those with snap-in trays) will operate upside-down. Why don't you take a CD-rom and put a cd in, then hold it facing downwards and see if it works :D

i see no reason that any normal unit wouldn't work that way...if they can work sideways I assume they can work upside down as well.....if you take one apart (a bunch of fun by the way) you can see that there is a part that holds the cd down to prevent it from moving away from the laser......i think that part would also hold the cd up if you turned it upside down.

Im going to do some testing, I thought Id just jump the gun and ask the Pro's here in the forums....
thanks guys

the only probelm would be it wouldnt close on its own, without you holding the CD in most opf the way. and the CD would fall out when you opened the tray.

OK, Iv done some checking and my Yamaha cdrw has clips on all four corners of the tray and it works fine pointing straight down. Now I have to find a dvdrw made the same way. If anyone has a drive like this let me known, thanks...

I can tell you that my Pioneer 105 has 4 clips that extend inwards, but they don't extend out far enough to keep a cd from falling out.

Iv played with one of my drives a bit, and found that if I tilt the drive back slightly the disk doesnt fall out of the tray.

Thanks
Charlie

maybe a slot drive would work except it would still flall out when you ejected it, you could make your own clips with a plastic paper clip type thing, just superglue a shard of plastic to the tray so it wont fll out.

good idea... Im thinking of remaking the tray out of clear plexi and/or glass with clips built in to hold the disc...
