I went to a computer show today (which was a total bust apart from the fans). What I ended up with are eight Sunon fans (KD1208PTS3). I cannot get an exact match on google.com but it would appear that they were a specialty production run with an odd connector (Mac??). Even so, they are 12 volt 1.6 watt fans and from what I gather the probably move 31 CFM at only 25 (or so) dB.

What I am thinking is that while individually they are not great fans, four of them will move 124 CFM (an be darn hard to hear). Air pressure would be minimal but with eight of them I can do a push/pull setup on an 8*8 inch heater core.

So what I am wondering is would this be a worthwhile setup for water cooling or should I just use them for fine tuning some case cooling?

Should work well for a radiator, they actually probably have more static pressure than your average 120mm fan.

8 fans add up to ~34dbA, which isn't too bad.
you might want to shroud it though
the deadzone of 8 80mm fans is quite a lot larger then the deadzone of a 120mm.

Korndog, how are you getting the sum of 34 dbA? I have tried google and I have never found a formula that will tell me how to sum the sound of several fans.

here's my ghetto calculation..

n = noise
f = flow
x = 2x 120's
y = 6x 80's

-------------
x * f = n ^2
okay, and
y * f = n ^1000

with f bein equal just about for both ;)
