epox ta3 w/tbird 1.2 the chip default is 12x100 the multiplier is factory unlocked. Im trying to get 9x133+ with this setup. but with this board their is a jumper to enable 133to166 fsb's. and so far i cant get a post when this jumper is set to 133, even when using 8x multiplier. i think ive tried every possible ram setting in bios and everything else bios related that i can think of. i have factory hs/f on now but have fop38 handy, ill slap it on tonight and apply arctic silver to n/bridge. Is it the chip(please no) or is their a trick to this board. Im not satisfied with fsb<133 regardless of cpu speed ! other than this im very happy to be on the dark side ! I Know my pci's can handle 38.

thanks in advance.

I had the same trouble getting my chip to post also when I moved the jumper.

However im not using a 1.2, so this may not apply.

WHen you change the multiplier, are you rebooting the computer afterwards, letting it post, then shutting it down to do the switch on the fsb, or are you changing it, shutting down, and doing the jumper?

I had to make sure mine posted, then shut it down, then change the jumper. If I didnt, it would not take, and clock so high the chip would not post.
Good luck, hope my response was not to confusing :(
AKDUDE

yeah i agree with akdude. also is your computer booting at 8x 100?i just want to be sure your cpu is UNLOCKED :) you definately want to reduce the multiplier and boot the system up then shutdown and switch the jumper to 133 then boot again. if your cpu will post at 1200 at 100 bus it will post at 1200 133 bus or any higher bus. The only things that probably would hold you back would be your memory or your nothbridge chipset. I seriously doubt it's your northbridge. I heard something about wake on lan can sometimes screw up a multiplier reduced overclock but i can't confirm that myself. check to make sure your memory timing is not set to bus +33 (i think this is turned off by default at 133 bus but better safe than sorry). good luck bro

I had no problems with my setup but you should try what the previous 2 posts recommend. We are assuming that you have good PC-133 or better memory? That could be your problem. Try changing the jumper to 133 and at the same time clear the bios via jumper (this is just over the let display). Flip the bios clear jumper back and leave the setting at 133 and see what happens. It is unlikely that is the CPU. I had a couple 100 mhz CPUs running on this board with no problems.

I tried all of the things you guys have suggested, honestly i did. No dice. the chips code was AVIA. Was. Traded in the little ***** and got a 266, AXIA
only been running 1 hour At 1400(10x133) 1.79,34c my memory sucks and this fop38 is louder than my MC2001 but im happy ! I need better memory but this is gonna be a beastly rig when i have some spare change.thanks for all the help. viva overclockers.com!

I should add that I was able to post at 11x145 and 10x150 at 1.8vcore i havent even tried 1.85. Shes only 1 day old. Voltage mod+active cooling is deffinately in the plan. Any advice on coolers ?

1425(9.5x150) cas3 1.85, 36c idle 2260 3dmark2001 w/ geforce 256. will do vmod + better cooler and post new. Whats the best cooler for this epox 8kta3 ?

As for coolers I definately like my PAL 6035. It is loud with a Delta, but it does the job very well. If you decide to get it, don't put the fan to suck air out like they say. Instead set it to blow down on the heatsink. I did this and saved about 4C. Af for the voltage mod, if you do this, or find any info on this let me know. I am VERY interested in doing it as well. I cannot get my FSB over 145 right now abut I think the extra voltage would do it. This is the ONLY information I could find on modding this board, but still does not explain it well enough. http://www.vr-zone.com/guides/ If you find out anything about this let me know. I am going to post another thread right now asking if anyone has any more info on the mod. Overclock On!
