Okay, Knoppix ont work correctly. It lists all my HDs but only gives me the option to install on my main windows HD.. Bleh.. all this hassal isnt worth having a TV guide built into my tv viewing software..

Grub and Linux installations are riddled with a lot of idiosyncrasies that need to be confronted at some point if you want to use them. Virtually nothing in Linux is point and click, unless you are in the GUI, and even then the configuartions available to you are usually specific to the GUI itself.
There are online guides available to help you sort out your Grub menu.lst.
It sounds like you installed grub to the mbr of your windows drive. A better solution would be to install grub to the mbr of the Linux drive, and change the boot order in your BIOS to make the Linux hd the first to boot. After setting up your menu.lst correctly you can then choose between windows and Linux.

Remember that Grub and Linux refer to drives differently, whereas Hard drive 1, partition 1 would be hda1 in Linux, in Grub it would be hd0,0.
It does require some research and trial and error, but when you become more comfortable with it, Grub is actually a very powerful tool.
Remember that to get off to a good start, you should install grub to the Linux drive, not the Windows drive.

If Ubuntu is freezing, you might want to try PCLinuxOS, it has very good hardware detection in general. The installer is idiosyncratic as well, though, and requires a reboot usually, after partitioning.
Linux is like an erector set, you kinda have to build everything before it will do anything for you.
PCLinuxOS is one OS I could help you with, if you have any questions about it. Archlinux is another distro I am somewhat familiar with, if you'd like to try it too.
(I am by no means very good at Linux, but I'm happy to do what I can.)
EDIT:I didn't realize this was all about Myth tv which I am not familiar with, so I hope the post is still relevant.

hm.. I just might make a new system eventually to use the TV tuner on.. a myth TV rig only.. so I wont have to confront installtion issues

Just an FYI you will probably run into many issues with that x700. It is unfortunate that ATI doesn't support linux very well with its drivers. Its probably the reason it keeps freezing on Ubuntu as well. I am not bashing ATI, either. I love them, alot. They are my fav company (being canadian helps!), but they simply aren't friendly with linux...

Try PCLinuxOS, and see how you fare. I think it has built in ATI drivers and should help.
