in my attempts to get some 98 machines running, i downloaded the GUi client to install as a service and run in the background. Well, I didn't get anywhere near getting in setup. I downloaded it and installed it and when i launch it itconfigures and then immediately gives me and error telling me fault at module 0000 ....1. And it wont close so i have to reboot. Everytime i run it does the same thing. This has happened on two computers i have tried it on so far???

What vesrion are you running???

Try the text console. ;)

I am using the newest gui version 2.20 or whatever. I can't use the text only version because i need to install it as a service on win98.

nope. It won't run at all. The moment i clicked on the file to start it i got the error messege. I really don't even think it had contacted the server yet to start folding.

Just a shot in the dark here, but is there some program getting in the way? Like, a firewall or anti-virus preventing it from communicating with the server or preventing it from working period? Try ctrl-alt-del and making sure all programs except Explorer and Systray are closed, then maybe try it out? I don't know, worth a shot. I can't think of anything else...

Did you put it in a new directory? Try the console ver. . With the console ver. just create a directory(FAH) put it in there and run it. That is it no install. Then you can use tray it to move it into the tray. Let's get it running first then we will help making it a service.

yeah i installed to a different directory...
And on my 200o machine i am running text only so i am used to that. But i will try it on the 98 machines in the morning.

Actually there is only one program that could get in the way( Fortress) but i know my way around that and i have totally disabled that security. So, that is not the problem i think:rolleyes:

You should still be able to put it as a service. Just make sure it's all setup right and then have the text client exe run as a service. Should work fine...

but it promps you to close the window when you shut-down, but it will have to do for a while. Found something interesting today on those 98 machines however- none of them will run a screensaver. If you try to make it run one them guess what error you get, that's right, the same one that folding is giving me.

well that somewhat explains it. lol. Anyway, I think the prompting you to close the window problem is easily solved. What you have to do is copy the a file from the Windows files into the [email protected] directory but I can't remember what file it is dang it. It's in Windows and then System or System32. Something like conagent I think. You copy that into the folding directory and then you right click on it and select properties. Then you select the right most tab on the properties and unselect "Prompt on shutdown" or else it's select "Don't prompt on shutdown." I can't remember which. Search for conagent or something like that and see if it works. Man it's going to be sweet to have these comps folding for us :D
