price wise however (in the uk at least) the x1950xt is cheaper than the 8800gts...so if price is an issue...?

one of the things you guys have not factored in is that the gts compared to the gtx is a pos. For the extra money the gtx performs so much better the performance / price ratio is much better i would save up for a gtx if i already had the money for a gts.

Actually there is not as much of a difference betwen the GTS and the xtx. a "tad" is correct.

BUT you have dx10 availability. I would do DX10 and Vista now, but my PC is also my HTPC, and until Vista fixes the TVout not working, Or I get a TV with DVI input, I will stick with dx9

EDIT: And with no AA/AF the 1950 actually score better! wow Just looked it up on the interactive chart at THG. Usually though the 8800gts is better :)

I am also looking at getting an 8800. The GTS not the GTX. Power usage on the GTX is insane and it requires 2 power plugs on one card.

power usage on the 8800gtx is not insane

Its about 30 more watts in a system than a x1950xtx is...

if you overclock a gts it will draw as much as a stock gtx will

so the 8800gts has no AA/AF?

Yes it has AA/AF

I was just remarking looking at the VGA charts at Toms that in some of the tests when its 1280x1024 but no AA or AF, the x1950xtx was better then the GTS.

This is not the norm though. The GTS is like 10-20% faster in demanding applications. Just not in non demanding ones. (dont know why... built in testing limits of the software?)

The GTX is faster still Especially when you break the 1600x1200 res barrier. At high def resolutions it SMOKES the ati cards.

And that post above using Oblivion as a refernce? Is not really a good example. First of all if you look up like 30FPS from the crossfire setup, you find the single card. Secondly, turn on AA in Oblivion. nVidia must have fixed their AA/HDR issues by now.

the nvidia cards have something like ATi overdrive to overclock the cards or do i need a 3td party app?

i was installing a waterblock on my x1950xtx and i accidently laid the card on plastic and i guess there was enough static energy to damage it cuz when i try to put it in and boot it it dosent show any video :(

Ofcourse Its going to smoke the ATI cards. Were comparing Apples to watermellons here. How can you justify How Uber the 8800 cards are when compareing them to Old Tech ATI cards?

If theres no need yet(unlike the guy who blew up his card) to upgrade, It would be wise to wait it out and see what ATI has with the R600. What does anyone have to lose?

I've seen a few places OC the gts to GTX specs and it is just as fast at those speeds. Also supposedly THG fudges there charts.
