There's a sale on Steam right now that has every version of F.E.A.R. that was ever made for about six bucks.

It got me thinking about how... even though I was VERY deep into it... I never had the opportunity to finish it.

F.E.A.R., I believe, was THE first game that actually had a reasonable A.I. in a shooter where they would actually plan strategies and try to gang up on you or wait you out, or camp.

Revolutionary at the time.

I thought I already had all the games... but apparently I was missing F.E.A.R. 2 and F.E.A.R. 3... but it's the original that I want to go back and finish.

It came at a rather bad time because I was about halfway through my freshman year of college and I had to move and I was still going after that one girl I never got...

So I just never got around to it.

Picked it up years later in Paris... still had the same old save game... Made it almost all the way til the end... but I'm sure there was another girl involved... and eventually I left France. So I guess I'm starting over again.

I think I only played the first one in multi-player??? It was a MEH... didn't tickle me enough to play any others.

As the whole "F.E.A.R." name implies... the single player experience was kinda the whole point. You missed... some pretty amazing stuff.

FEAR is one of those games that came around when I was in college and never checked out. I did buy it from GoG and install it on my WinXP retro build, in all it's EAX audio glory. Running that is not a problem on any GPU made in the last ten years or more.

Just checking my steam account, I still have:

F.E.A.R.
Extraction Point
Perseus Mandate
F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin
F.E.A.R. 3
Last played : 2016. Now that's funny right there :ROFLMAO:

Hahahahaa! :D

I hadn't really even THOUGHT ABOUT F.E.A.R. since 2019.

Still... I was surprised I didn't have F.E.A.R. 2. Could've sworn I got all of them years ago. And maybe I did. Maybe I had them on Epic or something. Either way... for 5 bucks (5 euros and 49 cents here)... now I don't have to WORRY about whether I have them or not. (I get the feeling there are going to be a looottttt of rainy days coming up.)

I loved the games , have played through the lot of them multiple times and like the first FarCry the first one holds a special place on my favorite games list. Top 10 for sure and still totally enjoyable.

I still laugh when I think of using the slow time feature and listening to one of the Merc's saying in slow motion "He's... Too... Fast" after I had taken out 10 or more of his Pals.

Pretty sure it was the first game I played where you could use a rail gun to shoot rebar and impale a Merc to the wall. The bodies would persist. On sections where I couldn't find my way out every time I came upon them standing up, I would reflexively shoot again.

On successive plays through it was more fun to use the console for unlimited ammo.

See! Earthdog just doesn't know what he's missing!

Yeah, maybe someday I'll get into SP games again. It really hasn't been since my console days tho....... Once I started on Return to Castle Wolfenstein on the Xbox in the early 2000s, SP modes have been dead to me... :chair:

I'm the exact opposite, don't touch 99% of MP games (or MP component of SP games), they have to have an interesting story or plotline to follow, otherwise I lose interest almost straight away 😅

If I didn't suck at PubG I would be on there everynight.

I like the variability in BR, death match, CTF, Rush, Domination... it's a new story every time........... just maybe in the same few settings (maps).

I feel like I should chime in here - this is how much F.E.A.R. mindf*cked me -

I actually bought it before 2013 and ported to Steam, but could never get more than an hour into it. Like it has the perfect blend of horror and FPS.

Hell I'm gonna play it. I hate you Rainless. A curse on your house.

Edit: so far the scariest thing is the performance. Ugh. It's like it's running purely in software mode, managed to force it to 2560*1440 and it's running under 10fps.

Edit 2: ah, just needed a forced restart. And AA actually kicked in right. Running smooth and looking FLYYY alright alright

(What's flashlight, f? Why isn't it f. WHY IS IT X, WHAT THE HE

Edit 3 - ok I got about a minute and a half in. Apparently pausing it mid-game got it to drop back down below 10fps. I wanna say there's a patch floating around , may have to dig it out.

@Nebulous you laugh but really. As far as AI goes, I agree with @rainless - the AI was on point, and that's one of the things that made it scary. You felt hunted.

But graphics? It was average. Like HL2 came out *before* F.E.A.R. and was leagues ahead. Why is it running like butt *flips table*

Oh hells yeah, I was just laughing about you being "mindscagged" with this game is all :ROFLMAO: But in all seriousness I had mega hours of fun with it. I replayed it so many times because it scared the crap out of me.

There's probably like GENERATIONS worth of mods to fix any possible performance issues.

I haven't actually installed it yet. I'll do that now. (I'm sure I even have my old save on some backup CD somewhere...)

Ahh... HERE you go: https://steamcommunity.com/app/21090/discussions/0/5452154443646041559/

It doesn't seem to like new hardware. As far as horror I chuckled through it. It was funny how predictable the jump scares with Alma were.

Hard to be horror with an F5 key. I played the same sequences over and over again. Trying to be perfect.

What would make the game scary ( and funny) is if the AI had an F5 key.:D

It's predictable today, yeah, when everyone can toss together a Unity game and put it on Steam for $2.99, sure. But when it launched? It was one of the few major games that did B-list spooky *right*. Like you're this front line operative with all the arms and armor and you still had your *** handed to you by a little girl...

I was referring to when it released. I played it day one and for months and months after.

I was already too old for scares when it came out. I am replaying it now. I dont remember even having to fight Alma (Mom)....The brother Paxton and the mercs and at the end aparations are all I remember. Which is sad because I played it about 20 times.
