Question: Why make a bootable USB drive for Linux or any other OS, what's wrong with DVD's? And if the .iso is too big for a 4.7GB DVD then just get a DL 8.5GB DVD to burn to like what I'm doing right now for 24.04 LTS :). Just make sure your DVD drive can read and wright to a DL disk.
I honestly thought this was a necro post from 10 years ago.:chair::giggle:

Im sure you can, but the first reason that jumps into my head, is speed. Optical drives are slow.

Also, everyone has USB ports... everyone does not an optical drive in 2024 (I haven't had one in probably a decade).

Might I add: it's just plain simpler to make a bootable USB drive. Plus, DL DVDs? Personally I ran out of 'em a few years ago and am not buying anymore. I know most of youse here are mainly Windows users, so Rufus for making a bootable USB would be an option. I personally like Ventoy, makes a bootable USB drive that you can just drop & drag .iso file to and from like it was part of your file system. Ventoy has a DL for Linux, Windows and to make a livecd.

Great write-up. Thank you for spending the time to put it all together. Personally, I just install the f@h client on the workers. I use HFM to monitor/control the folding and clusterSSH to manage the boxes themselves. Funny thing is, I only discovered clusterSSH last year after getting tired of having to SSH into 9 different boxes to run updates and peek in on the systems. Again, thanks a TON for the guide. Should be helpful for a great many people :)

I just got Ubuntu and Fedora dual boot/linux box happy on a bunch of random laptops and PCs (what can I say—playing with LinkedIn learning on all the Comptia lessons for the fun of it 😅)

I’m gonna tweak my work rigs with your method… For now I just have it installed as an app and not FAHclient. I mean it fired right up, but sure feels different from many many years ago running it out of terminal. I know Linux is supposed to run FAH a little faster, but doesn’t feel quite any different from Windows.

I have the latest LTS with Ubuntu 24.04… I’ll give it a try with that just to play around. You’d think 24 would work just as well/compatible with 22… but we’ll see!

I hate search engines, I'm trying to see if I can use Norton Ghost 15 to create a linux 24.04 boot usb drive using the .iso file, but all I get is how to make a Ghost usb drive :bang head:bang head

Now if only I can get it to work, not much documentation on what to do. Trial and error I guess :)
I did find out that 24.04 has Nvidia drivers 535 and 550 in it.
