Hello folks.

It's been over 10 years since I last built a PC so it feels like I'm starting as a noob again.

I've got myself a new case MSI MPG Gungnir 110R and I'm attempting to fit my old motherboard Asus Z87-PLUS. (I'll be upgrading the motherboard in a few months)

The F-PANAL connector does not fit the motherboard. The blank pin is not in the same position as the connector in my old case.

I'm sure it's something easy I'm missing but I'm lost. I've attached photos of the old connector and the MSI connecter.

Any help is much appreciated.

The "Old case connector" is a USB2, not a front panel connector.
Ahh ok. I did check PCPartpicker before buying the case and it said I needed a A USB 2.0 to USB 3.2 Gen 1 header adapter. I have one arriving tomorrow if that is what is required.

Yorks,

Welcome to the forums first and foremost!

1. As JLK mentioned the old connector is a USB2.0 connector, not the Front Panel.

2. Your ASUS Z87-Plus uses an older (non-standardized) layout for the F-Panel. You may need an adapter for that. See image below. (F-Panel connector on your MoBo is white.

3. If you plan to upgrade your motherboard in a few months I would simply not use the USB 3.2 from the case until you upgrade. Dropping the USB 3.2 Type C connector to USB2 technology will make it mostly unusable. (i.e. phone charging etc.) JMHO

Edit: One possible F-panel adapter/extention. Just be sure to map out the correct pin-out. - Amazon Link

OK I understand, I'll use the adaptor/extension you linked.

Many thanks for the advice, appreciated.
