Fan speed

Hi everybody. You may think this is my first post, but it isn't. I was registered a couple years ago, but the forums seems to have forgotten me. Oh well.

I've been attempting to find a rheostat or a variable resistor or anything else that'll let me adjust fan speed on the fly. I know there are drive bay kits available, but I just can't see spending upwards of $20 on one of those when all I need is a $0.50 rheostat. So here's the question: where can I find one. I've looked at Radio Shack and I've searched AllElectronics. No dice. Anybody have a source???

best quality/priced rheo I've seen, its 15W for $1.65 and radioshack sells like 1W ones for $4
