ok i have a ga7-dx board ( the first in the series used in the micron millenia max ( was the top of the line a few years ago =)

and it has a 1.333 ghx thunderbird

i went to website and see that it will accept a AthlonXP 2100+(.13u) .

what i want to know is if i pop the new cpu in will i have to manualy have to adjust power settings and anything else ( non OCd ) or will the system automaticaly adjust. .

any help would be great.
normaly i just buy a cpu with a MB so i dont have to worry about it.

does suported mean that MB will auto detect the power requirements or do i have to manualy set it because im change from a tbird to a xp?

thanks. i just had one of the sales guys at a local store say the original ga7 dx boards will only suport the palimino core XPs up to 2100 and none of the other procs ( they just happend to stop carrying paliminos last week =( )

It should auto everything but I think youll have to adjust the FSB to 133. I usually have to do that with every new system. If you dont the BIOs wont list your new CPU as a XP whatever.

not sure if ill have to reset the fsb because my system is running at 133 x 10 so i figured the buss would be at 133 already. dont know , will have to check when i get home

Tbred CPU on Ga-7DX

You might have to flash the bios to recognize the cpu properly. Even if you do flash to the latest bios however, a Tbred "B" will not be recognized properly, but WILL work fine. Only thing it is recognized as unknown cpu running at XXXX speed..................I have a friend ripping and encoding movies from DVD's weekly using a Ga-7DX and XP2100+ "B" Tbred with no other problems except it not being recognized properly.........

Since the original thread question is answered, I'll just address this question here right now...

i have the same mobo, its nice to know i have the upgradeability because coming this christmass i will probly be able to convince my mom to let me upgrade her comp (she got the 3 year best buy warranty--this is a micron milinia--and she wont let me touch the thing. Its annoying, but o well, im pretty sure she will let me do this after the warranty expires. It could use a ncie upgrade, but maybee she wont, 1 gig is plenty for internet and spider solitar (UGH!) and thats all she does, still nice to know i can go that far.
