Hey guys, this is my first build and I am looking for some help. I'm willing to put a lot of money towards it, around 3000 dollars including the cost of peripherals and windows. I am mainly going to use it for video editing and gaming. Up until now my computers have been unable to handle what I require of them. This is what I have so far

Corsair Vengeance Series CC-9011019-WW White Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case

Western Digital Caviar Black WD1002FAEX 1TB 7200 RPM SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive

ASUS VE278Q Black 27" Full HD HDMI LED Backlight LCD Monitor w/Speakers

COOLER MASTER Silent Pro Gold Series RSA00-80GAD3-US 1000W ATX 12V v2.3 / EPS 12V v2.92 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS ...

Logitech G19 Black USB Wired Standard Gaming Keyboard

AFT PRO-57U All-in-one USB 3.0 5.25" Media Card Reader

D-Link Amplifi HD Media Router 3000 (DIR-857) Wireless N900, Dual-Band, HD Fuel QoS, Gigabit, USB SharePort Mobile, SD Card ...

G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 2133 (PC3 17000) Desktop Memory Model F3-2133C9D-16GXH

ASUS P8Z77 WS LGA 1155 Intel Z77 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

CORSAIR H100 (CWCH100) Extreme Performance Liquid CPU Cooler

LITE-ON Black 12X Blu-ray Burner with Blu Ray 3D Feature SATA IHBS112-04 - OEM

Corsair Force Series GT CSSD-F120GBGT-BK 2.5" 120GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Cables To Go Model 54002 3m DisplayPort 1.1 Cable with Latches

And of course ivy bridge 3770K cpu

I have a few basic questions
1) is it a better idea to go with the 3770K or to use sandy bridge E
2) Are these components compatible
3) Do you know of any better alternatives

I am definatly looking to overclock both the cpu and the video card. I am looking for maximum performance and will likely be buying more video cards in the future, even though they are not really necessary. Thanks for any help you can give.

The only thing i see that ive heard mixed reviews about is the Coolermaster power supply, Maybe go with more memory.(Depending on your video editing) From whaat ive seen some editing uses alot of memory up.., ANd why Galaxy brand of video card? Ive heard that they dont fell like they made the best.

My my for a first build you are going all out. Yeah those all should work together very well. ASUS is a great brand for the mobo and monitor and G. Skill is the best price:performance I know of. You have plenty of juice should you ever need to add a second GPU and the Hard drive is well known for its Stability and speed.

1) As for the CPU I would stick with the Ivy Bridge you got there. No need to spend the extra cash for such a small performance increase. Video processing is going to be your most demanding task and that can eat up any CPU on the market.
2) Oh yes, completely.
3) I had a bad experience with my Corsair SSD, it died on me about 9 months in. I have heard the same problem from several people. But a handful of people with problems out of thousands that own them is always going to be there. If you are doing video editing I figured you would need some more space, ever think of going 2TB? Gaming and video files take up a lot of space, more so for lots of high def videos. Of course depending on what you are making and how much of it you are making you make just want a dedicated low RPM drive for it. Saves you a bit of money due to low RPM but with videos it is not as important. You could have a dedicated Gaming drive and a larger dedicated Video drive. I know it is hard to get ahold of a well priced ASUS or EVGA video card but ZOTAC is still available on newegg for a 680 and they have a pretty good reputation.

EDIT: Actually as far as RAM goes it isn't super RAM intensive, I use 8GB and it doesn't even use all of it. However I have a 2600k and it maxes it out while processing a video.

Could you tell us more about what you're using the computer for? Specific softwares, how big your projects are, etc? With your budget and uses, Sandy Bridge-E may be worth it, but only if we can confirm that the software/project size of yours will actually benefit from the extra two cores over Ivy Bridge.

I'm assuming you need a keyboard, mouse, monitor, and apparently a router too?

Also, do you live nearby a Microcenter?

Are you planning to go with only dual video cards or triple video cards?

Thanks for all the help so far. In response to Knufire the software I will likely use to start is just SONY Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum Suite 11. This is only a temporary solution. I was previously accustomed to final cut pro. In the future I will upgrade to either the full Sony Vegas 11 or Avid media composer, but for now I'll have to live with the cheaper one. The movies I make are generally short, between 2 to 10 minutes, but a few have been longer. Always in 1080 or 720p. I already have a mouse but I do need a new keyboard, router and monitor. I do live by a microcenter, and the goal for video cards is to start with one and keep adding when money allows. I'm going to start with 16 gb of memory and whatever I need for the future shouldn't be a problem. As for the power supply and ssd, thanks for the tips.

I'd go with this + the $500 3930K from Microcenter. 240GB SSD drive for all your programs and OS, 3x1TB drives in a RAID 5 array for everything else.

What do you need to know? Thats its one of the most powerful single cards ever made? Brand name really dones matter alot.. Just some brands use better parts to make the cards,

If you're planning on gaming across three monitors, grab the 4GB version for sure. For a single monitor, 2GB is sufficient.

ZOTAC has a 2 year warranty and EVGA has a 3 year warranty and it transferable, good selling point for EVGA.

EVGA and ASUS also have the best customer support out of any of the companies. Powercolor isn't bad either from what I've heard, but not that great. Sapphire, although they make great cards, has a 3rd party do their support and from what I've heard it's terrible. Not sure on XFX, Zotac, or HIS.

Thanks for all the help guys. I finished the build yesterday and have included some pictures. I decided to go with the 3770k and an evga superclocked gtx 670 with 4 gbs. of ram. Thanks again for all the help!
