I had been doing Distributed for a bit, but then began to realize how pointless it really was. So, a couple days ago, I decided to move to Folding. I just joined the team, and have the following machines folding hard:

1 (soon to be two) T-Bird 1.3
3 PIII 800
If I get around to it, a PII 400 (running Linux)

Of those, the T-Bird and one of the PIIIs run 24/7. The others are on probably 8 hours a day (father's and brother's machines). The first thing that hit me was: Pentium IIIs suck. While not even twice the speed, my Athlon has nearly lapped my PIII, and it has been running nearly 8 hours less. Running Dnet, the difference (ignoring clock speed) was not as pronounced, but in this.... wow.

Hopefully Ill get my other 1.3 back (the entire machine had to be RMA'ed... Thing totally crapped out, and after a month of screwing with it, I took it back to be replaced). Good thing I bought all of the parts for that one from one place. Sometime, I will get that Linux box folding.

WELCOME TO THE FOLD AND WELCOME TO THE FORUMS

We are glad to have you folding and i hope that you enjoy your stay here in the forms. And about folding processors, if you are going to have a machine fold then yeah, make it an AMD<-- right now you can't beat them folding:)

welcome to the best folding team and to the forums. maybe cures will be discovered so that younger generations will not have to suffer alzeihmer's and other diseases. i agree with you about folding at least having a point. SETI is not pointless, but a little far-fetched.
