just so you know , No mb is going to read a very accurate temp reading as the sensors them self and be off by as much as +/-10 degs . You could try remounting the hsf , if you do this check with a razor if your IHS is flat that could be some of the problems as well.

im wondering if my cpu is limiting my overclock or my (admitedly not great) ram...is my stepping a bit of a dud?

yous cpu seems right around average , most a64's over clock from 2.4-2.8 ghz so you are right in the middle ground =)

cheers well that sounds ok then! anyway my temps will improve after i get my AS5!!!

got my as5 now.
NB temps seem to be down by about 10 degrees (now @ 27)
But i dont think my cpu h/s is making good contact cos theres not much change in temps so far (load is still high 50s)
hopefully given a few days i should see the temps lower a bit though...
