Installed a new hard drive and more memory on one of my PC's. It's a Packard Bell Legend 4610 (old huh?). When I tried to install Windows 98SE from the floppy disk I get a "DISK I/O Error. Tried another floppy, floppy cable and drive and the same error. I believe the floppy controller on the motherboard is dead.

Anyone know where I can get a floppy controller card?
Do they still make them?

Anyone suggestions would greatly be apprieciated...

Thanks in Advance

Don't know much about your comp but do you see floppy options in the bios set-up? Maybe it has defaulted to 5-1/4. Also, I wouldn't put it past PB to be using a proprietory floppy, so even though you replaced it it still wouldn't work in the comp.

Did you physically replace one harddrive with another one? Or did you just add a second harddrive? If you replaced the original drive with a different drive, then you don't have the floppy controller driver installed anymore. Try putting the old drive back in and trying it again. You might need to "Ghost" the data from the first drive to the second drive. If you are just adding a second harddrive (D drive), then check your BIOS to make sure the boot sequence is "A, C" if that's ok, and you can still get into Windows, go into control panel, device manager and try to reinstall the floppy controller driver.

Have you also tried to cold boot from an emergency boot disk in the floppy?
