ok, here's a problem I've never had before. Every time I try to use my floppy drive, I get a stop error. I'm running Windows 2000 Professional. My hardware specs are in my sig. I have turned down to 10X133 so everything except the cpu is running in spec, but still no luck. Anyone know how to fix this?

You might wanna check for the floppy drive cable to be in the motherboard and actual floppy tight, and that the power is in.

Did you make any changes to your hardware? Check the floppy cable, make sure it's not upside down (they hate it when you do that). Make sure that it's set AFTER the twist in the floppy cable. Make sure that your BIOS settings are correct for the floppy. If that all fails, buy yourself a superdisk floppy drive. Nothing beats an IDE floppy!!

Got to agree with you there. Anything I build I try to use either a zip or LS-120 drive in place of a floppy. I've always been surprised they aren't more popular.

Actually, I added a Lite-On 32123S CD Burner. It's a 32X12X40. I'll try checking the cable and unhooking the Burner. I'll let you know if either works.

Update: I've made sure the floppy drive cable and power cables are seated properly. The floppy drive works fine to boot from.

I also tried unhooking my CD Burner. This did not fix the problem, either. I'm thinking it's a software problem in windows.

Have you disabled BIOS memory caching and shadowing in the BIOS? As the message suggests?

My older sister got a very similar message when she was trying to install a serial zip drive. I have no idea what caused it. I ended up having to install Win2K onto another hard drive, and move all her stuff over. I couldn't do crap with it.

It mentions a "hal.dll". If that's a legal copy of 2K, you might wanna contact M$ and find out what that's for, or search their knowledge base online for an answer.

Did you install any software when you got your CD burner? IF so uninstall it and see if it does it then. Or unhook the floopy if you don't really use it. The only reason I have a floppy drive in my computer is doing BIOS updates once in a while. Or you could splurge and get yourself a USB floppy drive for when you need it once in a while. And you can even boot off of one of those.

well, I finally got mad and reformated/reinstalled Win2K. Everything works like a charm now. :) Why is it that that always seems to fix my problems?
