I just got a new laptop - an Acer 1353XC w/XP2400+ CPU and, of course, I want to run folding@home on it. Now, it appears to use PowerNow as it idles at 350MHz and I have checked system properties several times and it has shown 350MHz, 469MHz and 796MHz, but never has gone up to 1800MHz (the rated speed) even though FaH runs constantly in the background. The fan starts up slowly now and then. I just have a few questions:

1) Is there anyway to force the CPU to fold at full speed
2) As long as I keep an eye on HDD temps will it be OK to fold at full speed?
3) I assume cooling will be sufficient to keep CPU temp under control.

So far my FAHLog looks like this:

These look kinda like an ~800MHz XP. I rarely look at the logs on my dually but I did notice a similar WU on one FAHlog:

I had a wee look but I couldnt see anything like that. Its XP Home its running btw.

Yes, sorry about that...
I meant in XP.

Control Panel-->Power Options-->Advanced tab (I believe...)

Anywho, somewhere on there... I remember changing the settings on my aunt's laptop (I do not have one or I would check)
when I reloaded XP Home.
Could be that you do not have the control driver for the PowerNow! .. there was a driver for my aunt's on the Dell site (it was a P4 but should be same)

Hope that helps anyhow... :confused:

I looked on the Acer site and could not find any either... could be something disabled in the bios... but I'm not sure... maybe someone else has an idea...
Good luck anyhow....

All you have to do is set the system to 'Always on'
Left click on the little power plug in the systray and just select it there.
I made a small thread about Laptops and I've posted links to drivers for PowerNow! Included are power option settings. Here
